Turkey Lasagna


Lasagna is a very tasty and hefty meal that takes a while to make but is rewarded with freshness and large serving sizes. However, not all people like to eat beef due to environmental, religious, and/or personal concerns, thus this recipe is perfect for almost anyone. The many fresh ingredients are well combined in this dish and add many layers of flavor that you won’t forget.


Ingredients

Yield: 8-10 servings

Preparation time: 40 minutes

Cooking time: 50 minutes

Total time: 90 minutes

  • 2 pounds of dark ground turkey meat

  • 16 strips of lasagne noodles

  • 16 oz of ricotta cheese

  • 16 oz fresh sliced mozzarella

  • 8 oz of shredded mozzarella

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 Bottles of marinara sauce (32 oz each)

  • 1/2 cup of chopped fresh basil

  • 1 cup of chopped fresh parsley

  • 1 Large Onion

  • 5 cloves of garlic

  • 4 oz Fresh Parmigiano Reggiano Cheese

  • 2 Tbsp Olive oil

  • 2 Tbsp dry italian seasoning

  • 1 Tsp of fennel seeds

  • 2 Tsp of salt

  • 1 Tsp of dry oregano and basil

  • 1 Tbsp of crushed pepper (optional)


Cooking Instructions
  1. Brown the meat in a Dutch oven on medium-high heat, add 1 tbsp of dry italian seasoning, and all of the dry basel and dry oregano. Drain the excess fat.

  2. Finely chop the garlic and cube the onion. On medium heat, sautee them in a pot with only olive oil until fragrant (about 2 minutes).

  3. Add the meat, marinara sauce, fresh basel, and crushed pepper (if using). Lower the heat to a simmer for 30 minutes.

  4. While the sauce is cooking, In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with the eggs, fresh parsley, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

  5. Boil a large pot of noodles with the remaining salt on high heat until al dente and drain the water.

  6. Preheat the oven to 375 Degrees.

  7. Spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a large baking dish (9x13 inches works well). Place 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese slices. Spoon 1 1/2 cups meat sauce over mozzarella, and sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese.

  8. Repeat layers, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese and a final layer of noodles. Cover the dish with foil.

  9. Bake in the oven for 25 minutes, then remove the foil and cook for an additional 25 minutes. Allow around 15 minutes to cool and enjoy.
