Army Stew 부대찌개 (Budae jjigae)



Ingredients

Main Ingredients:

  • Whatever vegetables you have (My preferences include:)

    • Napa Cabbage - about four to five leaves, chopped into fourths

    • Onion - a half, sliced

    • Green onion - two to four stalks, cut into two-inch pieces

  • Spam - half a can

  • Tofu - firm, four to eight ounces

  • Hot dogs – two

  • Bacon/pork belly – thinly sliced, cut into pieces, eight ounces

  • Kimchi - for preference, can sub out cabbage for more kimchi

  • Instant Ramen - one to two packages

  • Water - four cups, can use anchovy broth for better flavor

Seasoning:

  • Korean red chili pepper flakes - one tablespoon to start, add more by preference

  • Gochujang - one teaspoon

  • Soy sauce - soup soy sauce if you can find it, one tablespoon

  • Garlic - to taste

  • Water - enough to bind sauce



Cooking Instructions
  1. Mix all seasonings into small bowl

  2. Cut all vegetables, spam, tofu, hotdogs, and kimchi into bite-sized pieces

  3. Put all ingredients into a large shallow pot, preferably laying them out side by side for a prettier presentation

  4. Add seasoning to the middle of the pot

  5. Add water; boil until cabbage is soft

  6. Add ramen and cook to your liking

  7. Mix thoroughly and enjoy!
